The Undeniable Link Between Nutrient Deficiency and Alzheimer’s

Alzheimer’s disease is a debilitating condition that affects millions of individuals around the world. Often associated with old age, this disease causes a range of cognitive issues that make it challenging for individuals to perform their daily activities.

While genetics has been deemed as one of the primary factors that contribute to Alzheimer’s, studies continue to show that nutrient and vitamin/mineral deficiencies–particularly Vitamin D–also lead to the development of Alzheimer’s.

The Link Between Alzheimer’s and Nutrient Deficiency

Research has shown that nutrient deficiency can cause mental health issues, including but not limited to Alzheimer’s. For instance, a recent study found that low levels of Vitamin D are linked to an increased risk of developing Alzheimer’s.

The study analyzed over 1,200 individuals aged 65 and above, and it discovered that those with a Vitamin D deficiency had a 70% higher chance of developing Alzheimer’s than those with sufficient levels of Vitamin D.

The researchers note that vitamin D plays a significant role in the brain’s development and function, including reducing inflammation that destroys brain cells, and regulating neurotransmitters that affect mood and thinking.

Similarly, other studies have linked nutrient and mineral deficiencies to Alzheimer’s.

Size Matters: Why Your Standard Multivitamin Isn’t Working

One of the most common questions that continues to be asked surrounding vitamins and other supplements is whether or not your body is actually absorbing what you put in it, or whether it’s simply being passed through as waste with little to no benefit.
