Nutrient Intake and ADHD

Last summer, the Journal of Attention Disorders published a study examining the relationship between dietary patterns and ADHD.

After examining 1172 adolescents with an ADHD diagnosis, researchers identified two major dietary patterns in the sample: western and healthy. The western dietary pattern included higher intakes of total fat, saturated fat, refined sugars, and sodium, and lower intakes of omega-3 fatty acids, fibre, and folate. The healthy dietary pattern had higher levels of omega-3 fatty acids, fibre, and folate, with lower levels of total fat, saturated fat, and refined sugars.

Adolescents with higher scores for a western dietary pattern had a greater likelihood of having an ADHD diagnosis.

Aren’t Walmart vitamins good enough?

Okay, right off the bat, I  just want to say that company to company, we aren’t against Walmart. We don’t hold a grudge against them, and we don’t feel they try to push us out of business or anything like that. Even so, a common statement we hear from our EMPowerplus critics is that Truehope vitamins are far too expensive and you can get the same vitamins at Walmart (although really you can get multivitamins just about anywhere) for far less money.

Now,

Should Truehope customers self-medicate with EMPowerplus?

Many, if not most, of our 80,000 customers have grown tired of the side effects or became frustrated with the ineffectiveness of the medications they had been taking prior to learning about Truehope. They wanted something that provided actual relief.

Many of these types of customers have been looking for solutions alternative to their SSRI medications, and have tried numerous treatments (especially nutritional supplementation) before coming to Truehope. In fact, some have even gone off their conventional medications while trying to find a working solution they can be comfortable with.

Does EMPowerplus need randomized controlled and double blind studies to prove it works?

One of the demands EMPowerplus critics continue to put to us is the need for randomized controlled, double blind, placebo controlled studies. To many in the scientific world (particularly those analyzing quantitative data), those three elements are a holy grail of sorts.

The premise is that these trials eliminate bias: bias from the participant and bias from the researcher.

The problem with insisting on this type of research as being the only research that can produce reliable data is that, at least in Truehope’s case,

New research shows EMPowerplus can reduce stress, anxiety, depression

In September 2010, Christchurch, New Zealand, was hit by a 7.1 earthquake. Researchers at the University of Canterbury, Ohio State University, and the West Coast District Health Board (in Greymouth, New Zealand) wanted to study the effects such an event had on the anxiety, fear, and depression levels of earthquake survivors.

The role of amino acids in mental health

In 2008, researchers from the Global Neuroscience Initiative Foundation published an article in the Nutrition Journal entitled “Nutritional therapies for mental disorders”. In it, they outlined many of the connections between nutrition and mental health. Among these connections was the role amino acids can play in the occurrence and treatment of mood disorders.

Is Truehope a cure?

One of the most common themes among accusations made by those trying to detract from Truehope’s vision to restore and maintain mental and physical well-being is that we claim that our products are cures.

We’ve had people accuse us of claiming that EMPowerplus cures schizophrenia, that it cures bipolar, that it cures depression. We’ve even had people accuse us of claiming that it cures everything under the sun.

It’s important that we set the record straight.

Man Therapy

Did you know that men are less likely than women to seek professional help for mental health challenges? Consider the following from the Canadian Mental Health Association:

The “code” governing men’s behaviour is one of the prime barriers preventing men from seeking help. According to UK-based MaleHealth.com, men may feel it’s “weak and unmanly to admit to feelings of despair.” Because it’s easier for men to acknowledge physical symptoms, rather than emotional ones, their mental health problems can go undiagnosed.

What does Truehope stand for?

Have you ever wondered what Truehope stands for? We try to make it clear, but sometimes our message doesn’t reach anyone.

If you follow the blog, you probably already know how and why Truehope started 16 years ago. You probably already know about the growing body of research showing the effectiveness of EMPowerplus. But do you know what motivates us here at Truehope?

The role doctors play in the Truehope program

It probably isn’t much of a surprise to most people to know that Truehope has some critics of EMPowerplus. These detractors criticize the work we do and label us quacks, snake oil sales persons, and scam artists. Some accuse us of being interested in only making money and that we oppose the work of mental health professionals.

I thought this might be a good time to briefly touch on our support program.
