Three years and going strong: Monica’s story

I came across this blog post of Monica, one of our customers:

Life is really good, and I am so glad I took the chance with the Truehope program.  Depression and anxiety are just things I never think about any more.  You can do it too!  If Empowerplus doesn’t help you, some other nutritional regimen will.  I think copper imbalances are more common than most doctors think, for one thing.  But drugs are never the right answer!

An open letter to sadness

Janine’s story: bipolar

After she left university, Janine found herself in a depression, but began to notice her moods would switch between highs and lows.

Eventually, her mother told her she needed to see a doctor because she was becoming uncontrollable. The psychiatrist diagnosed her that day with bipolar and put her on a trial drug to manage it.

After about six months, her doctor switched Janine to lithium and Celexa.

Who is the Truehope founder?

Well, actually, Truehope has two founders: Anthony Stephan and David Hardy. This is their story.

Anthony Stephan’s wife, Debora, had bipolar disorder and took her own life in January of 1994. Debbie’s father had done the same sixteen years earlier.

A year later, two of Anthony’s children were diagnosed with the most severe form of bipolar. Both had been given a variety of heavy medications, and they experienced serious side effects. Anthony was afraid he’d soon lose another loved one to the grip of bipolar disorder.

Nutrition, Metabolism, and Autism

Last year, researchers at Arizona State University published a study in Nutrition & Metabolism, examining the relationship between the nutritional and metabolic status of children with autism and the severity of their conditions. The researchers compared their findings with a group of healthy children of similar age and gender.

The study illustrated that children with autism have many abnormalities in their nutritional and metabolic status:

[V]ariations in the severity of autism are strongly associated with the nutritional and metabolic biomarkers investigated in this study.

We had someone come to our blog last week after searching for the phrase “does truehope work”. I thought this would be a great topic for a blog post.

To start off, this question is fraught with uncertainty and apprehension. For the majority of people diagnosed with a mood disorder—such as depression, bipolar, anxiety, and so on—the only solution for managing the disorder is medication. This generally includes psychotropic and SSRI medication. They believe this is the only solution because it is ingrained into them early on and the media strengthens the connections between mental health and medication.

Exercise doesn’t help depression. Are you sure?

You probably read several stories last week about a study in the BMJ (formerly the British Medical Journal) that reportedly claimed exercise no longer helps with managing depression, which many had believed it did. The study was picked up by media outlets (starting with BBC News, Daily Mail, and Guardian in the UK, then spreading throughout the world) whose shocking headlines indicated that exercising no longer does anything for depression.

Fake Adderall being sold online

Last week, the US FDA announced at least two people had thought they had purchased Adderall, a popular ADHD drug, from a website.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration on Tuesday said it has learned of at least two cases in which people received counterfeit versions of the 30-milligram dose of the drug with the wrong active ingredients — ones that treat acute pain, not attention problems. The fake pill is ineffective and may be harmful, the FDA said.
