Layne’s success story: bipolar, depression, and anxiety

Several years ago, Layne was diagnosed with several disorders, including bipolar, depression, panic, and anxiety. As a result of these disorders, Layne had a hard time relating to others, including his family. Due to the extreme depression, he even had trouble being able to spend quality time with his children.

Layne tried psychiatric medications for his disorders. Each would work great at first, but the side effects would become too much, and he would have drowsiness and a constant brain fog.

The Institute of Food Technologists held their annual meeting earlier this week, and one of the sessions was “Diet, Mental Energy, and Mental Well-Being: A Landscape Overview of the Science and Consumer Perceptions.” Panel speakers suggested that a change in dietary patterns may be more effective than pharmaceuticals to address mental health issues.

Gracie’s success story: bipolar

Mary Beth’s daughter Gracie was depressed from the time she was a baby. As early as 3 years old, Gracie would act in ways that led Mary Beth to believe that she was suicidal.

Reduction of antipsychotics produces higher long-term recovery

The advocacy website Mad in America recently published a post about a Jama Psychiatry study that reported a breakthrough finding.

The article discovered that subjects in the study saw a doubled recovery rate if their antipsychotic treatment was reduced or discontinued compared to those who maintained their antipsychotic treatment.

The effect of tobacco use on EMPowerplus

Tobacco is a central nervous system (CNS) stimulant, and its effects on the health of the mind and body are similar to that of other stimulants that we advise against using.

Jacob’s success story: bipolar

Jacob began having feelings of depression as a teenager after he had been bullied. Despite removing himself from that negative environment, the depression never went away.

At age 15, he also began to experience manic tendencies. Jacob would cycle from one extreme to the other. He would have manic bouts when he was the life of a party, then go to being so depressed that he didn’t want anyone around. Jacob also began developing anxiety to the point where he had to see a physical therapist for extreme muscle tension.
