Probiotic supplementation may improve depression scores

Researchers in Iran recently published a study in Clinical Nutrition, showing a connection between probiotic supplementation and depression.

The researchers tracked the depression scores of 110 participants using the Beck Depression Inventory over an 8-week trial. The trial was designed as a double blind trial, which meant neither the researchers nor the participants knew which supplement (probiotic or placebo) they received.

What the researchers discovered was that after the 8-week trial, participants who had been taking the probiotic supplement improved significantly more in their depression scores than those taking the placebo.
