Monica’s success story: bipolar

A few years ago, The Vancouver Sun featured a large article about EMPowerplus. The article includes details of how EMPowerplus rescued a new mother from bipolar disorder.

Monica Carsience shot into a manic high soon after she gave birth to her first daughter, Rebecca. She did everything (the laundry, clean, organize, knit, sew), except sleep, for 10 straight days. A year later, Monica let her Prozac run out and was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and type two bipolar disorder. SSRIs and lithium followed.

In her own words, Monica describes, “I became numb. I had no feeling. I became fat. My weight soared to 200 pounds from 150 pounds. What feelings I could feel were completely unreliable. . . . It felt like I was 80 years old and I was getting close to 30.”

In turn, her husband Stuart began spending more and more time at work. “I couldn’t deal with it, I didn’t want to deal with her in that state. I was travelling a lot, and it was easy for me to get away and I did.”

Monica started EMPowerplus 6 years ago. Four months after starting, she had weaned off all of her medications and had no more bipolar symptoms; after 6 months, her fibromyalgia symptoms were also gone. EMPowerplus literally helped glue the Carsience family back together.

“I think it has really been a marriage saver,” Stuart comments. “It brought stability to [Monica], it brought stability to the relationship, and it brought me back to her.”
