Earlier this year, an American dietician published an article in Today’s Dietician outlining the role nutrition can play in managing symptoms of Autism Spectrum Disorder.
The researcher outlined in her article that one course of action for managing autism through diet is eliminating the following substances: dyes, artificial colours, high-fructose corn syrup, artificial flavourings, artificial preservatives, and artificial sweeteners.
She was also quick to point out that there are positive steps one can take to manage autism symptoms through diet. Specifically she mentioned diet supplementation using multivitamins, omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins D and B6, magnesium, and other nutrients (including probiotics, antifungals, and digestive enzymes).
This information further supports the growing research that link nutrition and mental health.
