Is Truehope safe?

One of the most common questions we receive from those researching Truehope is whether our EMPowerplus formula is safe. In fact, if you search for “Is Truehope safe” on Google, you receive over half a million results.

The answer to this question is an easy one: yes, EMPowerplus is safe.

In fact, researchers from California and two Alberta universities published in 2011 a BMC Psychiatry article entitled “Systematic review of safety and tolerability of a complex micronutrient formula used in mental health”.

Their review of all available safety data on EMPowerplus revealed that “there was not a single reported occurrence of a clinically meaningful negative outcome/effect or an abnormal blood test that could be attributed to toxicity.” In other words, EMPowerplus is not toxic.

On the other hand, researchers acknowledged that combining psychiatric drugs with EMPowerplus has serious safety challenges:

Based on the limited information in individuals treated with medication, we recommend that, notwithstanding our findings of general safety of the formula when used in medication-free patients, use of multi-nutrient formulations as an adjunct should be monitored closely and with full attention to the possibility that optimum dosing of psychotropic agents may require significant adjustments.

This recommendation matches Truehope’s position that medicated people who are starting to take EMPowerplus should gradually taper off their psychiatric drugs under proper supervision.

In addition to a clean safety record, researchers also gave EMPowerplus excellent grades for tolerability:

Adverse event information from 157 children and adults was available from six studies employing the current version of this formula, and only minor, transitory reports of headache and nausea emerged.

Among other reasons, researchers say this safety review is important because EMPowerplus is so widely used. “There is more published and ongoing research on this formula for mental health than on any other complex formula anywhere in the world,” they wrote. “Given the significant and rapid growth in research on EMPowerplus as well as its use clinically around the world, the safety and tolerability data presented here are reassuring.”
